The Ice Gators Continue To Promote Youth Hockey In Louisiana

Youth ice hockey has become a popular sport even in southern states. As someone who has personaly worked in an ice arena before, I can honestly say that it’s good for the kids in a lot of ways. It can bring an athletic activity into a young persons life which helps to keep them healthy and happy. It also brings a sense of belonging since it is a team sport and they all have to work together. During the hot summer days (especially in the south) ice hockey can provide a “cool” activity for kids to participate in. Due to the social nature of the sport it can also help young children and even teenagers to build friendships and occassionaly even travel to various places around the country for tournaments, camps, and seminars. Introductory classes are available at most ice arena’s for folks who haven’t had any experience or don’t really know much about the sport. Most states even have local teams with ages ranging from young to adult and ability levels ranging from beginner all the way up to college or even pro. Which can provide the kids with something to look forward to all year round. And, despite the fact that most people think that hockey is all about fighting and violence on the ice (which is in large part due to Hollywood), the fact is that most ice rinks don’t allow violence on the ice and neither do the coaches these days which provides a safer atmosphere. If your child has shown a lack of interest in most sports or even in physical activity at all, then I would suggest giving hockey a chance as it might bring something different to the table. Louisianans look out and break out the skates and sticks. Here comes youth ice hockey!
